Emphasis will be on the impact of the Bill of Rights on the practices of police, prosecutors and judges and the remedies available for the violation of those rights.
Historical and contemporary theories of criminal behavior are examined, with emphasis on the sources of information on crime and the application of the scientific method to the explanation of crime.
An analysis of the legal, social, ethical, moral, and practical issues surrounding capital punishment, examining the nature, practice and functions of the death penalty in American and Western societies.
